WHAT WE DO
What exactly does a postpartum doula do?
Your trained and certified doula teaches and assists with postpartum adjustment, newborn characteristics and care, development, breastfeeding, parent-infant bonding, and an empathic, compassionate, non-judgmental approach.
Because we are providing great practical care tips helping parents trust their instincts to meet their baby’s needs:
- Feeding, Bathing, Diapering, Umbilical Cord Care, Soothing, and Swaddling Techniques
- Assistance in understanding and reading your baby’s cues for feeding and sleeping
- Baby Wearing
Your doula is a seasoned professional experienced in supporting families through the postpartum period and providing education and sensitive, non-judgmental support and companionship. Doulas not only assist with newborn care and your recovery, but they can also assist with meal preparation, light household tasks, laundry, and organizing.
Postpartum doulas offer evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing, and coping skills for new parents, making referrals when necessary.
Ruth ensures Doula Care Postpartum services are individually tailored to meet the unique needs of each family. The daily tasks and focus of care the doula provides depend on the priorities requested or needed by your family.
- Knowledgeable Lactation Support and Bottlefeeding Support
- Newborn Care and Education
- Postnatal Recovery Care
- Nourishing Meal Preparation
- Light Housekeeping and Errands
- Sibling Care
The postpartum doula differs significantly from baby nurses, who tend solely to the baby’s needs. Instead, your doula is there for the whole family. The doula is reassuring and encouraging by mentoring families to care for their newborns and promoting parent-infant bonding.
